The first country which comes to our mind when we think of migrating to other country is definitely none other than Australia. Although Australia is a very strong economy and supports a large mass of population when we look at the facts and figures about “Youth Employment in Australia” the reality is almost very shocking. Nobody can deny the fact that youth form a very important part of the economy of a country and the youth of today decide what will be the fate of a nation tomorrow. Thinking logically we should not be alarmed on seeing low youth employment rates in Australia. Youth, although an important aspect of our economy are new to the world of economy and quite inexperienced to straight away start doing some jobs. Youth are devoid of any skills which puts them in a lot of risk of not being employed. After all the companies need profits and by hiring people with adequate experience they are to save a considerable amount of their resources by not having to impart them any kind of training. In the following lines I will discuss about the findings of a report with respect to youth employment in Australia- According to a recent report the youth from the age from 15-24 were at the highest risk of not being given employment in Australia. In the year 2004 about 20 percent of the youth from the age group of 15-19 years were not employed and about 23 percent of the youth between the age group were not having any kind of employment. The findings of the report do not end here itself; they go on and further declare that 45 percent of the total youth in the age group of 19-24 were not having full time employment. The reasons for this existing scenario were well investigated and found out. It was found that the most of the youth who were not employed were from low socio-economic backgrounds or were from some rural areas so they have not much resources with themselves to support themselves in urban areas due to high cost of living and hence end up being unemployed. One other major reason which was found out for low youth employment was early school dropouts. The youth tend leave learning institutions early on and hence end up being devoid of any knowledge and skills. Low employment rates may result in underemployment and unemployment in future. The government has brought many policies to improve the situation such as direct job creation and employer subsidy are some of the programs which have been successful in the endeavor of creating employment in Australia. Government has shown great concern over helping the youth becoming employed. Stress is being laid upon providing adequate education and training to the youth so that they are adequately skilled before stepping into a job. Several support services are also set up which will assist and guide the youth and hence help promote their well being.
